• Losartan

  Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), certain types of heart disease, and certain types of kidney diseases in cats and dogs. This medication is used off-label in veterinary medicine.

• Lotilaner

  Lotilaner is used to treat and prevent flea infestations and treat and control tick infestations in dogs and cats. After being administered to a pet, lotilaner is distributed throughout the body. When fleas or ticks bite the dog or cat, they are exposed to the drug and killed during their blood meal.

• Lotilaner + Moxidectin + Praziquantel + Pyrantel

  Lotilaner + moxidectin + praziquantel + pyrantel (brand name Credelio Quattro®) is a combination antiparasitic used to protect against ticks, fleas, heartworm disease, roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older and weighing at least 3.3 lb (1.5 kg). It comes in a chewable tablet to be given monthly. Its use is currently only approved for dogs.

• Lufenuron

  Lufenuron is a medication that controls flea infestations in dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets. It is given by mouth in the form of a tablet or liquid to dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets. It may also be given by injection to cats. Side effects are uncommon but may include vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, tiredness, reddening of the skin, or itchiness. Do not use in pets that are allergic to it. If a negative reaction occurs, please call your veterinary office.

• Lysine

  Lysine is given by mouth and is used on and off label to treat signs and symptoms associated with feline herpes virus infection in cats. Give as directed by your veterinarian. Side effects are uncommon but may include diarrhea. There are no specific contraindications for using this supplement. If a negative reaction occurs, please call your veterinary office.

• Magnesium Hydroxide

  Magnesium hydroxide (Magnalax®, Carmilax®, Polymag®, Rumen Bolus®, Instamag®, Polyox®II, Laxade®) is a drug that may be used in animals as an oral laxative, an antacid, for treatment of low magnesium levels, and for treatment of orally ingested toxins. It may be used in dogs, cats, cattle, sheep and goats.

• Marbofloxacin

  Marbofloxacin is given by mouth and is used on and off label to treat certain bacterial infections including leishmaniasis, tuberculosis, and hemoplasmosis. Common side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of appetite.

• Maropitant Citrate

  Maropitant citrate (brand name Cerenia®) is given by mouth in the form of a tablet or injected under the skin and used to treat nausea and vomiting in dogs and cats. Common side effects include vomiting and increased salivation, or pain at the injection site. It is contraindicated in pets with a GI obstruction, GI toxicity, or in pets under 8 weeks old. Use caution in pets with heart or liver disease, or in pets under 16 weeks old.

• Masitinib Mesylate

  Masitinib mesylate (Masivet&reg) is a prescription drug used in dogs to treat inoperable mast cell tumors that are classified as grade 2 or 3. It may be prescribed for off-label use in cats and dogs to treat other tumors and conditions.

• Meclizine

  Meclizine (brand names Antivert®, Dramamine® Less Drowsy Formula, Bonine®, Bonamine®, Postafen®, Univert®) is an antihistamine used off label to prevent and treat motion sickness and vomiting associated with it, in cats, dogs, and other small mammals. The most common side effect is sedation and sleepiness.
